On May 25, 2018, the new General Data Protection Regulation, hereinafter referred to as the GDPR, approved by Regulation (EU) No. 2016/679 of the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, of April 27, came into force. This regulation established rules regarding the protection of natural persons with respect to the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data.
The GDPR introduces a set of new rules, namely the obligation to appoint a data protection officer, changes to consent requirements, the elimination of notifications and authorizations, the implementation of the right to be forgotten, the introduction of very high fines, and information obligations regarding security breaches.
Thus, under paragraph a) of paragraph 1 and paragraph 6 of Article 37 of the GDPR, the Vice Presidency of the Regional Government appointed Raquel Cordeiro de Amaral Câmara, Senior Technician at the Regional Directorate of European Affairs and External Cooperation, as the Data Protection Officer, for her recognized professional qualities and necessary skills to perform the inherent duties.

The Data Protection Officer will respond via the medium through which the Data Subject exercised their right within one month of receiving the request, unless there are special complexities, in which case the period may be extended up to two months with proper justification.
If the requests are manifestly unfounded or excessive, particularly due to their repetitive nature, the Vice Presidency of the Regional Government reserves the right to charge administrative fees or refuse to follow up on the request.
If the Data Subject believes that the Vice Presidency of the Regional Government has not complied with the requirements of the GDPR or the applicable national data protection legislation, they may file a complaint with the National Data Protection Commission through its website.
