At Aerogare Civil das Lajes, we are trying to minimize the impact of COVID-19 with the safety of our workers, employees and passengers as a priority. The Airport is in permanent contact with the Health Delegation of Praia da Vitória, complying with governmental, national and regional guidelines, and our teams act in accordance with the safety standards indicated by the General Health Directorate and Regional Health Directorate. We have taken a set of measures to mitigate this threat.
In view of this difficult moment, we appeal for passengers to be calm, guaranteeing, on our part, permanent surveillance and updated information at the moment. We reinforce the importance of reducing travel to the terminal to what is strictly necessary, in order to avoid crowding at the terminal.
COVID-19, caused by the new coronavirus, was classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization on the 11th of March. Portugal is in a state of emergency and the airports operate according to the indications of the Portuguese General Directorate of Health.
Aerogare Civil das Lajes follows the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) guidelines published in COVID-19 Aviation Health Safety Protocol.
The Portuguese General Directorate of Health launched a campaign to raise individual awareness and reinforce hygiene recommendations, which the airports welcomed and promoted.
Additionally, Aerogare Civil das Lajes has :
• Reinforced the cleaning of our facilities, comum, circulation and waiting areas, using medically grade disinfection;
• Placed several hand sanitizer dispensers on several points of the Aerogare;
• Created isolation rooms so that teams from the Regional Health Directorate can deal with suspicious cases upon arrival;
• Provided information to passengers in the form of a poster and film;
• Restrict the access to the Terminal to passengers and staff only.
Inside Aerogare Civil das Lajes, users shall:
• Use facial masks.
• Respect social distancing
•Adopt respiratory etiquette
•Avoid touching objects and surfaces
•Sterilize or wash hands often

Mandatory SARS-CoV-2 Testing prior travel
1 – Prior boarding a flight to the Azorean Islands, passengers must make proof, either in digital or hard copy, of a document issued by a national or international certified laboratory, which certifies the passenger has been tested for SARS-CoV-2 with the result NEGATIVE.
2 – The tests shall be conducted using the RT-PCR methodology, in the 72 hours prior the time of departure from the airport of origin.
3 – The document issued by the laboratory conducting the SARS-CoV-2 test shall contain:
a) the individual’s identification,
b) the name of the laboratory and its certification,
c) the mention to the RT-PCR methodology used for the test,
d) the date of the testing
e) the test’s result.
Inter-islands Connections
1 – All passengers departing São Miguel airports to any other islands of the Azorean Archipelago, shall make proof, either in digital or hard copy, of a document issued by a national or international certified laboratory, which certifies the passenger has been tested for SARS-CoV-2 with the result NEGATIVE.
3 – The document issued by the laboratory conducting the SARS-CoV-2 test shall contain
Non-compliance
The non-compliance with the above prescribed procedures, either by airlines or passengers, results in legal prosecution by the Regional Health Authority base on crime of disobedience, as well as the application of SARS-CoV-2 testing upon arrival.
